Scientific Director

AlphaBioCom is an expanding, stimulating, and passionate leader in medical writing and medical communications. Due to our expanding roster of pharmaceutical and biotech clients, we are seeking a Scientific Director to join our outstanding, energetic team.

The Scientific Director will be responsible for leading multiple accounts. For each account, responsibilities include overseeing the quality and timely execution of all deliverables, developing and maintaining client relationships to ensure the account durability and growth, and providing strategic and scientific support for medical communications planning. The Scientific Director is expected to exemplify the desired standards of AlphaBioCom for the development of original, accurate, high-quality content (eg, manuscripts, abstracts, slide decks) within project specifications, timelines, and budgets. The Scientific Director will manage a team of senior and junior medical writers, identify training needs, and develop and implement plans to address training needs. The Scientific Director is expected to provide strategic and scientific support for business development and to participate in presentations for existing clients and for business development.

 

Essential Functions

  • Provides strategic counsel from a scientific/medical perspective for designated clients and when requested for business development
  • Sets the standards for each team
  • Identifies training needs of the scientific team, develops the plan to address, and oversees the implementation of the plan
  • Works with medical writers to develop clear, accurate content
  • Provides critical editorial and scientific review of content developed by writers and ensures that content meets objectives
  • Provides medical direction and develops strategy for clients’ medical communications programs
  • Interacts with external thought leaders and faculty and internal medical affairs colleagues and clinical leads
  • Cultivates expertise in assigned therapeutic areas
  • Liaises with clients on scientific and medical strategy; develops program content
  • Works closely with account and project managers to ensure projects are properly resourced, completed in a timely manner, meet timelines, and stay within budget
  • Demonstrates ability to balance multiple projects for multiple clients
  • Assists new/junior employees with content development activities and serves as a resource for questions
  • Continuously complies with AlphaBioCom and client standard editorial procedures, including ethical standards
  • Represents the company at client meetings (eg, advisory boards, speaker-training meetings, business development initiatives) in a professional manner

 

Job Requirements

  • PhD in a biomedical science/PharmD/MD (or local equivalent)
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in medical communications
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring junior writers
  • Expertise in multiple therapeutic areas
  • Knowledge of scientific and regulatory requirements applicable to early phase clinical studies, study protocols, and reports
  • Familiar with current GPP and ICMJE guidelines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, clinical data-interpretation skills, strong interpersonal and leadership skills, ability to plan/organize and multitask
  • Demonstrated skills to guide and work with a team
  • Ability to travel (<20%)

Account Manager

Key Responsibilities

  • Develops strong working relationships via day-to-day client contact and interaction
  • Leads account team, in conjunction with the scientific lead, to ensure all accounts deliver beyond expectations
  • Drives continuous improvement on each account in terms of client services and project management delivery
  • Works with scientific services lead to ensure that all project milestones are met
  • Leads the financial forecasting approach for allocated clients, ensuring that forecasts are accurate and provided in a timely fashion to finance department and agency leadership
  • Works with finance manager to ensure timely invoicing on allocated accounts
  • Helps team members to prioritize their work in order to ensure client and company objectives are met
  • Ensures 100% compliance with AlphaBioCom and client standard client services procedures, including ethical standards
  • Works with business development team to provide appropriate client services support for proposals and new business presentations as required
  • Undertakes proactive scenario planning and application of strategic insight

 

Qualifications Include

  • 3 to 5 years of medical communications agency experience
  • Strong project management and time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Confident decision maker with sound judgement
  • Team player who can oversee and direct an account team
  • Ability to recognize challenges and problem solve in order to meet deadlines
  • Possesses outstanding attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Fluent in agency processes
  • Bachelor’s Degree required, experience in a business or scientific field is preferred
  • Ability to travel

Project Assistant

Key responsibilities

  • Assist in all deliverables as determined by Account Manger
  • Key role in agency resourcing, including working with teams to understand account needs and making changes through internal project management program

  • Managing multiple projects across various timelines within the agency
  • Act as a logistical liaison for scheduling/planning meetings
