Stephen is responsible for the leadership of AlphaBioCom and sets the vision and goals for the organization. Stephen has more than 20 years of pharmaceutical and medical communications experience. He has led local operations in the UK and the US for large pharmaceutical companies and directed global communications activities for several brands.
In his career, Stephen has managed many multi-billion dollar pharmaceutical assets and been responsible for the launch of many new chemical entities. Stephen has led both client and agency teams on delivering numerous publication plans on US, European, and global levels. He attended the London South Bank University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree with Honors in Business Studies, Marketing and International Marketing. Prior to founding AlphaBioCom in 2005, Stephen worked as a Product Manager at Merck Sharp and Dohme, Global Director of Marketing at SmithKline Beecham, and Director of Vaccine Marketing at GlaxoSmithKline.
Stephen’s core skills include strategy insight for publication plans, agency and team leadership, client liaison, ensuring client satisfaction, issue and conflict resolution, and focusing the team on achieving their deliverables. A natural leader with a drive for success, Stephen is successfully executing his vision for creating a new and better publication planning agency.
Meryl Gersh, PhD
Vice President for Scientific Services
As Vice President for Scientific Services at AlphaBioCom, Meryl oversees and assists the scientific communication managers. She provides scientific content management and editorial support for publications and serves as an author and client liaison. As the scientific lead for multiple teams, she is involved in every output related to those teams. In addition, Meryl is involved in all aspects of scientific communications and publications planning.
Meryl earned a PhD in Genetics from Thomas Jefferson University, Kimmel Cancer Center in Philadelphia. Prior to joining AlphaBioCom, she served as Adjunct Professor of Biology at St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia for more than 5 years.
Meryl has experience across a wide range of scientific communication programs, study types (preclinical to phase IV), and publications activities. Her core skills include medical writing, client interfacing, mentoring writers, publication planning, ensuring scientific accuracy and integrity, and ensuring deadlines are met.
Meryl joined the team at AlphaBioCom in January 2007 as a Scientific Communications Manager. She was named Director of Scientific Affairs in September 2012, and was promoted to Vice President for Scientific Services in December 2015.
Ed Shifflett, PhD
As the leader of the scientific team, Ed is involved in all scientific deliverables, scientific strategy, and development of publication and communication plans. He has not only worked alongside pharmaceutical medical affairs teams, but has also served in a medical affairs capacity for smaller pharmaceutical and biotech companies.
Ed received a Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, a PhD in Physiology at North Carolina State University, and received a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of Illinois-Chicago Medical School. He worked as a Medical Writer at Trinity Communications before joining AlphaBioCom in 2006.
Ed’s core skills include scientific strategy for communication plans; management of scientific communications staff; interfacing with clients; working with project management; ensuring that timelines and needs are being met; training scientific staff on processes and procedures; and ensuring scientific accuracy of all work. Highly motivated and energetic, Ed has vast experience developing and executing scientific communications plans of all sizes.
As Managing Director, Mike leads the team at AlphaBioCom with the intent of building upon the success the company has enjoyed over the last 11 years and establishing a more powerful presence in the global medical communications industry.
Mike earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Manchester—Institute of Science and Technology.
He has more than 25 years of experience in the pharmaceutical and medical communications world. Mike has been the leader of several large scientific communication agencies and has experience leading organizations both in the United States and Europe. Mike began his career as a medical representative and brand manager for Forest Laboratories.
Mike has held a number of senior and leadership roles in large publication planning agencies. He is recognized for his ability to deliver communication solutions and effectively manage the accounts of both domestic and international clients.
His core skills include team leadership, strategic publication planning, client liaison, and issue and conflict resolution.
Mike came to AlphaBioCom in March 2012, serving as the Vice President of Strategic Communication Services.
